A former Rockstar Games developer believes GTA 6 will launch on November 19, 2026 as scheduled, warning that any further delays could seriously damage public interest in the game.

GTA 6 Likely to Release on Time, Says Ex-Rockstar Animator

Mike York, who previously worked at Rockstar Games as an animator on GTA 5, recently told Esports Insider that he expects Rockstar to meet its planned November 2026 release window for GTA 6.

According to York, the recent delays are not a sign of trouble but rather a reflection of Rockstar’s commitment to quality.

“If I know Rockstar Games and the people working there, the delay is about making the game look and feel as good as it possibly can,” York explained.

Rockstar Still Polishing GTA 6

York believes GTA 6 is not yet fully finished, mainly because Rockstar is under enormous pressure to meet unprecedented expectations.

He explained that internally, Rockstar may feel the game hasn’t yet reached the studio’s own high standards, which is why extra development time was needed.

“They’re polishing things. With so much on the line and expectations being so high, they can’t afford to release it until it truly meets those expectations,” he said.

Why November 2026 Makes Sense for GTA 6

York also pointed out that November is an ideal launch window for a game of GTA 6’s scale, especially from a business standpoint.

Releasing the game roughly a month before Christmas gives Rockstar a major advantage in terms of sales and visibility.

“If you want to sell a massive number of copies, that’s the perfect time,” York said.
“It gives players plenty of time to pre-order and buy the game ahead of the holiday season.”

He added that Rockstar typically only delays projects once or twice when absolutely necessary, suggesting the studio is now committed to the November 2026 date.

Rockstar Can’t Afford Another Delay

York also warned that further delays could hurt GTA 6’s momentum, no matter how strong the franchise is.

According to him, Rockstar risks frustrating fans if the game is pushed back again.

“It’s in Rockstar’s best interest to release the game in November 2026,” he said.
“There’s a point where delaying something too much starts to make people angry, and the hype begins to fade.”
